Everyone loved the sponge printing flowers so much that I decided to continue with it for our next project. The children learnt about Henri Rousseau – they loved the book The fantastic jungles of Henri rousseau, especially the fact that Rousseau was self taught. I love reading with the kids at the beginning of a project – such a great way to engage them with the subject.
This project was done in 2 stages – week one we worked on our tigers – printing the black markings with our sponges. Week 2, we worked on our jungle backrounds – again using the sponges for leaves and foliage. Lastly we collaged the 2 together. Loving the different personalities!
This project was actually done before the Summer! Apologies for the silence folks, the art club came to a temporary halt due to building refurb and family life took over! However, I am happy to say we are now back up and running – until Christmas anyway.
More updates to come – Robots and some beautiful gyotaku prints (Japanese fish printing) – which was a huge hit.
